Welcome!

I am a textile artist specializing in creating unique surfaces, using natural fibres with real dried flower inclusions.

I am massively influenced by the rugged landscapes of Northern England and the Borders area, which is reflected in the materials I choose to work with and the subject matter of the pieces I produce.

I predominately work from my garden studio near Gretna, alongside this I have an open studio at Farfield Mill where work can be viewed.

Framed Artworks

Plant Fibre papers with dried flower inclusions, capture memories of the passing seasons. Home grown from seed, pressed and dried throughout the year and incorporated into natural fibre landscapes and floral displays. Available to purchase, please message for recent works.

Wall Hangings

Using plants, leaves and flowers to create eco prints and gel plate prints I work directly onto plant dyed fabrics. These are created into patchwork fabric collages and are combined with pressed flower fibre paper fused with free motion machine embroidery and embellished with hand stitch.

Bespoke Lampshades

Transform your living space with my custom lampshades, carefully crafted with a mix of natural fibres and dried flowers. I welcome commissions and can create lamps and shades using vintage frames with dried flowers and colours of your choice.

Where it all began

Unleashing Creativity with Fibres

Blooming Fibres came about due to the use of blooms and fibres within my textile work. I combine all things plant! Dried plants, plant dyes, plant fibres and plant printing, of course I am passionate about all things fibre based, but more important are the aspects I find all consuming within nature.

I studied at Cumbria College of Art, graduating with a 2:1 in Design Crafts in 2000. I later went on to complete a PGCE in secondary Art and Design. Gaining QTS in 2005. I taught in various secondary schools for over 10 years, until I decided to set up Blooming Fibres and dedicate myself full time to my artistic practice. It has not been a smooth journey more bumpy than I would have liked!

My art is my therapy. I find it cathartic and a necessary part of my journey.

I enjoy the process of combining natural fibres with dried flowers to create layered immersive images, something about this slow laying of fibre creates a pause in my busy brain. A welcome moment of peace and clarity.
